The
Earth Charter movement is a global effort made up of people from all walks of
life who embrace the values in the Earth Charter and who seek to make these
values a blueprint for a sustainable way of life on this planet. The Earth
Charter was officially approved In 2000.

Earth
Charter USA is based at The Center for Respect of Life
and Environment (CRLE) in Washington, DC. They supply brochures and support high
level endorsement of the Earth Charter. (CRLE also leads the University Leaders
for a Sustainable Future.) For more
information and educational resources regarding the Earth Charter visit: www.earthcharterusa.org
The
Earth Charter Community Alliance (ECCA) was formed in 2002 through the efforts
of The Institute for Ethics and Meaning in Tampa Florida, led by Jan
Roberts. ECCA provides support to an
ever-growing network of Earth Charter Summit Leaders who organize many events
through the year, especially an annual Earth Charter Summit to introduce people
in their communities to the principles of the Earth Charter and to animate
local implementation of the Earth Charter principles. These individuals
represent key sectors of society including: business, religious and spiritual
groups, the academic community, citizen's groups, labor groups, professional
associations, the media, and many others.

Charter Community Summit in 2003 visit: www.earthchartersummits.org

please contact Susan Curry; 215-591-1551; Suscurry@comcast.net.
These
efforts of involved and committed individuals will popularize and build support
for the Earth Charter as a guide for achieving a sustainable future both
locally and globally. The 'people's movement' which is springing up around the
Earth Charter will eventually generate enough political support for endorsement
of the Earth Charter by the United Nations.
This
EarthCharterCitizens.org Website is maintained to help you connect with others
in the Greater Philadelphia area who are engaged in activities and projects to
promote the endorsement of the Earth Charter by businesses, organizations, and
municipalities, and/or the use of the Earth Charter in our school curriculum.
This web site will be the local source of up-to-date information about our Philadelphia Earth Charter Community activities and our fifth annual Philadelphia Earth Charter Community Summit on October 7-8, 2005.
